Neuromodulators

(Botox, Xeomin, Dysport, Nuceiva)

Pre-Treatment Instructions

· 3 DAYS BEFORE treatment: AVOID using active ingredients such as Retinol, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Glycolic, etc. Also, AVOID waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal cream on the area to be treated.

· 7 DAYS BEFORE treatment (to prevent bruising): AVOID blood thinning over-the-counter medications such as Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, and Aleve. Also avoid herbal supplements, such as Garlic, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, and Omega-3 capsules. Please note: If you have a cardiovascular history, please check with your doctor prior to stopping the use of Aspirin.

· DO NOT drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before (or after) your treatment to avoid extra bruising.

· Inform your provider if you have a history of cold sores to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment.

· DO NOT use a neuromodulator if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to any of its ingredients, or suffer from any neurological disorders. Please inform your provider if you have any questions about this prior to the treatment.

Day of Treatment

· A very slight lack of comfort and a few small spots may appear at the injection points. These inconveniences generally disappear quickly after injection.

· Redness and swelling are normal (the small bumps resolve within an hour). Some bruising may also be visible.

· It is common to experience a headache for the first few days as the muscles relax; you may take Acetaminophen/Tylenol. AVOID Ibuprofen/Advil for 24 hours.

Post-Treatment Instructions

· Stay in a vertical position for four hours following injection. DO NOT lie down or bend forward for prolonged periods of time; sit upright.

· AVOID placing excessive pressure on the treated area(s) for the first four hours. DO NOT massage or rub the injected area(s); i.e. no makeup, facials, massage, eyebrow grooming, tight-fitting hats/helmets.

· AVOID exercise or strenuous activities for the remainder of the treatment day; you may resume normal activities/routines the following day.

· AVOID extended UV exposure until any redness/swelling has subsided. Be sure to apply an SPF 30 or higher sunscreen.

· Treatment takes 14 days to take full effect although it will usually start working in 3-5 days. If you require more units, we advise that you wait 12-14 days for a follow-up appointment as minor issues may work themselves out because certain muscle groups can react quicker than others.

· A neuromodulator is a temporary treatment lasting on average 3-4 months. Sometimes a few wrinkles may start to return after 2 months. A neuromodulator only works on lines and wrinkles that are caused by muscle contraction.

· Deep, etched in lines may require more consecutive treatments (every 3 months) to improve and/or may require the addition of fillers or resurfacing treatments.

· Please consult with your provider in regards to resuming your skincare routine or laser treatments.

· Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
